Talrik Jr. ROBOT Curriculum:
To start here are some robot classroom possibilities:
1. TJ-PRO Beginners Class (6-8 hours)
2. TJ-PRO Intermediate Class (6-8 hours)
3. TJ-PRO Advanced Robot Behaviors Class (8-12 hours)
4. TJ-PRO Kit Course (8-10 hours) and an independent course with a different robot,
the Talrik Junior (TJ):
5. TJ Kit Expert Course (8-10 hours)
1. TJ-PRO Beginners Class (6-8 hours).
The beginners class introduces the students to autonomous mobile robotics.
Terminology is defined and explained. Robot cognitive, motor and sensory
capabilities is developed. The idea of machine behavior and the biological
connection is emphasized. Simple programs with Interactive C are
demonstrated. The students modify existing programs to alter robot behavior.
This way they can experimentally judge the effects of their concepts and
ideas. Hands-on experiments with TJ-PRO illustrate all the concepts taught.
2. TJ-PRO Intermediate Class (6-8 hours). prerequisite: TJ-PRO Beginners Class.
The TJ-PRO electronics and mechanics are described in detail, structure and
function. The instructor provides the students TJ-PRO add-on sensor modules
which they install and learn to program. Here they see the intimate details
of how the robot really works.
3. TJ-PRO Advanced Robot Behaviors Class (8-12 hours). prerequisite: TJ-PRO
Beginners Class.
Students take up where the beginners class ends. They are introduced to
machine intelligence and artificial intelligence concepts and then program
intelligent robot behaviors of varying sophistication with TJ-PRO robots
with enhanced sensors used in the Intermediate Class. The student learns
about "machine ethnology" and connects to the concept of emergent behaviors.
The students enhance their Programming skills with Interactive C as they
develop robot behaviors on the TJ-PRO
4. TJ-PRO Kit Course (8-10).
This course is similar to the Beginners Class, except the students buy their
TJ-PRO robots and assemble them. The difficult electronics board
is preassembled, but the student will test them by downloading programs and
executing them. The student learns debugging techniques that involve
hardware and software simultaneously.
5. TJ Kit Expert Course (12-15 hours)
Prerequisites: Soldering skill. Hobbyist skills and appreciation.
The student buys the TJ expert kit and is guided by the instructor
in its assembly. The TJ kit is more difficult than the TJ-PRO and does not
have the easy programmability of the TJ-PRO. The course content follows that
of the TJ-PRO Beginners class.
Equipment Required:
Hardware:
Personal Computer, 286 or better running on DOS.
MB2325 Communications Board and 6-wire cable.
Serial modem cable from the PC to the MB2325 board (If you don't have the DB25 connector
in the back of your PC).
Robots kits: To teach the beginners class for 10 students you would need to buy 11
TJ-PRO robots, or buy 11 partially assembled
robots and one totally assembled robot.
Software:
TJ-PRO Classes: Interactive C (free).
TJ-PRO Drivers and sensor reading routines (free)
TJ Class: Image Craft C
TJ Drivers and sensor reading routines (free)
